POLICY
In the case of a disaster, terrorist or inclement weather where conditions severely hamper transportation, employees are expected to make every reasonable effort to arrive at work on time or as close thereto as possible. A person arriving late will report to their supervisor and explain the circumstances. Employees who report to work will be paid for the full shift scheduled, although they may arrive late or be dismissed early from work.
A person deciding not to come to work must telephone their supervisor or another management individual and arrange for taking vacation time. The person deciding to take vacation time on an inclement weather day will be charged the full workday as vacation regardless of what might transpire at the department.
Employees may arrange to report to work at a different site (Blackriver Field Office, BFO, vice Seattle) if the employee makes such arrangements with the supervisor and provided that work is actually available for the employee to perform at the alternative work site.
A person absent from work due to adverse weather condition may be permitted to make up the work on a scheduled day off instead of using paid leave time, provided that all of the following conditions are satisfied.
1.
It is approved by the employee’s supervisor in advance.
2.
The time is made up within two weeks.
3.
Supervision (if needed) will be available without special scheduling; staff may at the sole discretion
of the supervisor be given material for the day's assignment on the day prior.
4.
The hours being made up do not result in overtime pay.
5.
The safety and well being of department employees is the overriding concern of this policy and all
interpretations of this policy should be made with that consideration in mind.
